What "Coincidences" Really Mean

​At the beginning of November on my first night working at the Annual Yoga Suncadia Retreat (my 3rd year), before bed I drew two oracle cards (no affiliation) for some guidance. One was the obstacle and one was the path.

​The path card I drew was one that I have maybe only drawn once before. It was not familiar to me. It was the elk card.

When I awoke at the Grand Fir Lodge in the morning, there had been whispers of elk sightings. I was getting breakfast ready when I saw tons of people gathered around a window facing the golf course, I ran over and could see a 2-3 elk in the distance. I felt stunned.

​​I ran and poured myself a hot cup of tea, seeing the frost on the ground outside, I put my shoes on and I headed out!

Just passed the lodge I crept up onto one of the golf course hills and my jaw dropped as I saw an entire herd of 30+ elk not more than a few hundred feet away down the 'course. I slowly walked the path around the course towards them, a little closer, not able to take my eyes off of them, completely entranced.

​Their droppings littered the path of the golf course, signifying that they had moved from this direction. I kept my distance, but as I rounded the bend several stopped what they were doing to spend several minutes just staring at me. I felt a sensation in my chest, the sensation of a deeper connection beyond words. I crouched down and the tears started streaming. All I could do was whisper thank you over and over again.

​​Once that incident took place, it seems as though they just didn't stop coming. I was in my bedroom the day after when I heard a noise, looked up and realized my bedroom's side of the lodge was surrounded by the elk! 

From my bedroom window I stared. There they were, not TEN FEET (THREE METERS) IN FRONT OF ME!!! All munching down the fresh fallen leaves. Again, they locked eyes on me and I shivered.

This was my first elk sighting in three years of working this retreat and the first ever herd sighting in my life!

They looked like such an amazing combination of deer, cow, camel and horse. How magnificent, us creatures. So similar and so different. All one of this majestic place we call Earth.

They came and went several more times in just three days. As did families of deer. My heart feels touched, my soul seen.

After ~5+ years of living intentionally and exploring spirituality, with all these tiny seemingly "coincidences" showing up in my life, I no longer believe in coincidences. I know I'm being guided.

I've read several "self-help" and spiritual texts that all say "coincidences" are omens or, plainly put, signs that you are on the right path. You see, life is meant to flow like this!! Though, because we don't live in a world awake to life's magic, we live in a world that thrives only through intellect (to a fault), we call it a miracle, hunk it up to luck and keep slumping along hoping and wising our lives could be different.

I will always remind you that your life is what you make it and you do have the power to turn yourself around!

The power of intention is critical for your life. What you focus on grows! In the dark of a new moon, I set intentions. This last new moon (Oct. 27th) I decided to write down my intentions and keep them front of mind. It's W I L D (there's that word again) to see what lessons an opportunities the Universe is hurling at me. When you are ready to show up, the Universe is ready to deliver.

​Well, the Universe is kind of always delivering, but when you are ready to show up, suddenly you're able to see things you didn't quite see before.
